About Our Pet Pharmacy & Repeat Prescriptions Policy

Green Pastures Veterinary Centre maintains a fully stocked on-site pet pharmacy so you can quickly access any medication your pet needs. We can dispense your pet's one-time medication or prescription refill within minutes of your appointment.

As an RCVS Accredited Practice, we ensure that our medicines are stored appropriately at the required temperature and correct conditions. We keep a wide variety of medicines in stock to enable us to dispense any necessary treatments for your pet as rapidly as possible.

Alternatively, if you would prefer to source your pet's medicines elsewhere, we can supply a written prescription. The cost per prescription is £11.34.

How do I get a repeat prescription for my pet?

If your pet has a condition that requires long-term medication, such as osteoarthritis or an under active thyroid, the vet will advise you that they can have a repeat prescription. Typically, this means you will be dispensed a month's supply of medication. When this comes to an end, you will be able to collect another supply, by advising us that you would like to collect a repeat prescription. We aim to process all repeat prescription requests within 24 hours.

Our governing body requires that we review all patients on long-term medications every 6 months. This enables us to check their dose is still correct and address any changes in the progression of their condition. When you consider that 6 months of our life is equivalent to 3.5 years of a dog's life, these check-ups are very necessary indeed.

How quickly can Green Pastures process a repeat prescription?

The frequency of checks depends on your vet's advice, but it is usually every 6 months. The charge for a prescription medication re-examination is £40.18 and can be combined free of charge with a booster vaccination.

You can request these prescriptions by phone at 01934 622022 or by email at info@greenpasturesvets.co.uk.

What costs are involved?

You may obtain Prescription Only Medicines category V (POM-Vs) from your veterinary surgeon or ask for a written prescription and obtain these medicines from another veterinary surgeon or a pharmacy. Each written prescription costs £11.34.

Can you issue prescription that has been prescribed at a different Vets?

Your veterinary surgeon may prescribe POM-Vs only for animals under their care. A prescription may not be appropriate if your pet is an in-patient or immediate treatment is necessary.

How often will my pets meditcation be reviewed?

You will be informed, on request, of the price of any medication that may be dispensed for your pet. The general policy of this practice is to re-assess a pet requiring repeat prescriptions every 6 months, but this may vary with individual circumstances. Further information on the prices of medicines is available on request.
